Opening night of the Colorado Ballet is coming very soon – October 4. This season the Colorado Ballet opens with the Giselle. Adolphe Adam (1803-1856), known for his ballets and his operas , wrote the music for this ballet, and it is remarkably beautiful.

Another point of interest is that on October 2, before opening night, there will be a luncheon at Kevin Taylor’s with a discussion and a behind-the-scenes look at the production of this ballet. This is a great opportunity to gain some insight into the production of a ballet, and in particular, a ballet that has captivated so many hearts over the years. The details of this luncheon are listed below in the press release which I received from the Colorado Ballet.

You won’t want to miss our stunning season opener–the hauntingly beautiful ballet Giselle, with live music performed by the Colorado Ballet Orchestra. The ballet tells the story of a count in disguise who falls in love with Giselle, a beautiful peasant girl with a fragile heart.  When she discovers the count’s true identity and that he is engaged to another woman, she dies broken-hearted.  She becomes a member of The Wilis—vengeful spirits who suffered unrequited love in life and are destined to roam the earth each night, trapping men and making them dance to their deaths.  When the count enters the domain of The Wilis, only Giselle’s love can save him.
